Hmmm.   If I could Ask Kalan a QUESTION...
 


A few days ago our own Lovely WALNUT said this:  [the colours and italics are mine...]

"In addition to the GU I would like to see a new thread though, a Q&A thread and if Kalan ever wants to answer any of our questions he could pop in and post even a one-line reply.  There’s no obligation to respond to all or any questions, just what he is inclined to address.  He could also use the questions for a future podcast if he chooses.  Of course, we all have to take an oath not to fangirl on that thread. 

There are so many questions I want to ask him, from his favourite classical composer to what movie he watched on his flight home for Christmas but for now, I remain ever the love-slave awaiting a morsel of blog-Kibble from the master.  Woof, woof…"



WALNUT??   I think this is a Wonderful idea!  At the very least, it could be a fun pass-Time for us.  I only ask that we are thoughtful and Grown Up about this, and respectful of Kalan and each other. 


eta:  May I add one other little request??   ...If people feel the need to DISCUSS any of these Questions, would they please take it over to the Grown-Up Thread and just keep this place a pure QUESTION LIST??

#1/  You sound so happy about your new songs, Kalan.  I know you have said you were pretty much living in the studio, doing a lot of demo-ing before the holidays.  Now you have shared that you will be living in the studio...  in a Serious way.  ~~Still demo-ing??  Or beginning the actual recording??   

Either way, I have been wondering whether you are doing all the instrumentation yourself, or do you have a few partners-in-crime?  It would seem ideal, to me, if you are working with at least a core group of musicians you understand and get along with, in a collaborative/creative way.  [tho I could be Wrong!     ]  ~~And, if you are,  might  we have heard of any of them...   ben?  Leh-lo?  Devrim?   Ricky?  Chris?

[How Many Roads]

I would like to ask Kalan.....

# 2    Why did you never perform the song "How Many Roads" from the 219 Days CD at any of your concerts?

It is my favourite song from this CD.  So many of the other songs were performed but not this one.  Just curious?

I have always wanted to asked Kalan since being on idol alot of the others have said
that it has been a great journey and have met alot of great friends you also had said
this.Was wondering do you still have any contact with any of the other idols that you
where on idol with like Theresa, Jacob, ect, did you remain friends with any of them.

What is the process for deciding which songs will be released to radio?

- is it a collaboration of your team, or does one person have more input
- are all the singles decided up front, or over a period of time

To that I would add:

Kalan??   If  you were successful in writing your 25 songs and demo'd them, I imagine you have revisited them again, now that you are  back to work, and chosen  your favourites to record...   But who do you  have to 'answer' to for the final choices on your record??  I sure hope you have a strong enough say, this time around, to really make an album you can honestly call  your own!

Kalan this is kind of a two part question.
There are many different levels of success, seeing that you are entering your 5th year of your 5 to 10 year plan.

Do you consider yourself successful and where you want to be, at this point in your career plan?

There are many Canadian artists that have made a Good career for themselves by staying in Canada. One that comes to my mind is Colin James. He has made his home and family in Canada and a studio where he makes the music he loves. He loves playing more intimate venues, his connection with his fans is a strong bond.

So after experiencing the music business in your first 5 years, do you still want to Conquer the World or would you be Happy to have a Career such as Colin's?
