Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

karin,

MJ's Blog has links to the performances after every show. It may not be until the next day (I forget) but anyway, she does post them and you can watch them there, if you're interested.

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

Thanks so much josh!  Really appreciate you providing that link.  I have watched some performances and will work on coming up with a list.

Couple of impressions so far...I think it is really difficult to compare 16 year-olds with people in their 20's....Casey is 27 for example.  But I guess that is beside the point.

So far, of what I have seen, I like Crystal best.  And some people have mentioned that Alex Lambert reminded them of Kalan.  No so at all for me.  In any case, where he didn't make it to the finals, doesn't really matter I guess.

Crunkette, thanks for the clarification.  I should have realized it was Adam you were referring to.  Anything with Kalan is likely a long ways off, unfortunately.  BTW, I would love to have a chance to go to an Adam concert.  Looks like that would be rather difficult though!

No problem, karin. Glad you can join the  discussion, since you always have interesting things to say.

That's a good point about ages of contestants. Some people are brilliant singers and performers at 16, but how many? (I mean, on the level of the teenage Judy Garland, or maybe Michael Jackson.) How can seasoned adults compete against green kids? Jordin Sparks won the whole thing at 17, so I guess it can happen.

There was an interview somewhere recently with Michael Orland and Debra Byrd, the vocal coaches, and they said this season most of the talent is inexperienced. Crystal, for ex., seems to me to be very experienced, but apparently she's not, according to them.

I thought Andrew Garcia's Hollywood week song was fantastic. He's been really mediocre since then. It's like he's trying to find his way.

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

Here's my top 12 (well top three actually as I could care less about the rest)

1.  Crystal
2.  Siobhan
2.  Casey
-----------------------
4. Lacey
5. Andrew
6. Alex
7. Mike
8. Didi
9.  Paige
10. Katie
11. Aaron
12.  Tim

Crystal seems to have already figured out what kind of artist she is so that may be why she seems experienced.  Isn't her background mainly street singing?  Not sure.

I hope Casey goes back to singing the blues again like he did in Hollywood week and I don't care what Simon says... he can rock too...

I love Siobhan's quirkiness.  I can't wait to see what she brings to the rest of the competition.

I agree regarding Andrew, Josh, he just needs to find that fantastic song again.

Regarding Adam's Vancouver concerts, I'm so disappointed I couldn't get tickets as it would have been great to see him in a small venue and hear the acoustic versions of his songs before he graduates to the big time arenas.  I have the sinking feeling that most of us will be relegated to buying scalper tickets in the future because somehow they have figured out the way around the ticketmaster security.

I agree, good for him for selling out!!

Have fun in Vegas, Mistressred, Miss Mouse will be ecstatic!

I need a #2 and a #3 or one of them is going to get more points than the other by default in the order you've put em. Is that ok that I do that, or did you want to specifically put one 2nd and one 3rd?

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

http://www.change.org/actions/view/bring_alex_lambert_back_on_american_idol

In case anyone is interested, there is a petition going around now to get Alex back on the show.
Over 10,000 names are currently on it.

I really think AI needs to change the voting system.  America keeps getting it wrong.  I guess "vote for the worst" doesn't help matters.

Maybe there will be a wildcard again this year. (Anoop, was luck number 13 last year).

Regarding Adam tickets, I heard that most of the tickets were snapped up by StubHub.  Last time I looked there were tickets available but at inflated prices, of course.

I'm pretty sure these will be full band concerts. I'm not totally sure, but the only concert he has actually done in the US, at a casino in Indio, CA, held about 900 people and was a full band concert. The only acoustic gig Adam has done, to my knowledge, is a kind of unplugged thing for VH1. Adam's look has become pretty crazy, lately, btw.

Those of you interested in Kris would love the recent acoustic gig he did at The Grammy Museum in LA. It's one of three or four he's done lately. He sounded great, and his banter was hilarious. It's wild how Kris used to be seem to be so quiet, and now, it's like, "Shut up and sing, Kris!" But I love listening to him and his interactions with the audience. He's a character.

I think there are higher quality vids than this but this is what I can find at the moment. This is the first video, and the rest are in the sidebar. The Q & A at the end (last two videos, 8 & 9) is great.

Also -- I gotta brag about my favorite Idol a little --  Live Like We're Dying went platinum last week. It's currently #5 on HAC, #10 on Pop, in the USA. So -- yay for Kris.

Yeah he did Fantasy Springs Casino, in which this piece of audio sex took place!

Besides VH1 Unplugged, he also did a show in NYC for iheartradio.com, in which he stopped in the middle of a song to tell a chatty girl to get off her phone, LOL.

...lately? Have you already forgotten his pre-Idol stuff? XD

True enough! I suppose a lot of people saw that. Though a lot of viewers of AI only saw the Adam they saw on TV. I don't especially understand why Adam toned himself down a lot, for AI. I mean, I understand he did it to make himself more popular, but that seems dishonest. If his pre-and-post-Idol self is so flamboyant, I figure that's who he should have presented himself as on the show. Otherwise he was just fooling people. (Sorry, I've never been a big fan, anyway.)

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

I'm really finding most of this year's AI contestants rather generic - they can sing but only a couple can keep me from flipping the channel half way through their song to check out "Biggest Loser". I have to keep a list to remember their performances. Just not a whole lot of personality.

1. Siobhan (wow)
2. Crystal
3. Aaron
4. Lee
5. Casey
6. Michael
7. Lacey
8. Katie
9. Didi
10. Paige
11. Andrew
12. Tim

Hilarious!

Can I change my picks?  Just kidding, but I thought Sioban was fantastic tonight.  Love the Adam Lambert comparison from Kara.

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

Thanks, crunkette, that was funny.

Well, I missed Kalan tonight, on Rolling Stones night. His Paint It Black was epic. (And I still miss Alex and Lilly. I know -- broken record!)

By the way, Alex and Lilly were both on Ellen. Alex sang the song he originally intended to do on AI last week (but a producer talked him into doing "Trouble," instead).

You can find them in the sidebar:

http://ellen.warnerbros.com/videos/

Maybe it's a minority opinion here but I thought Siobhan wasn't good tonight. I can't describe singing, but I guess I'd say she was off key, then she was screamy. I suppose I ought to root for the Massachusetts contestant, but while I think she's a sweet kid, I didn't like her singing tonight.

I don't have any faves right now, but I voted for Andrew, Didi, and Casey. The best was Crystal, but I didn't end up having time to get in any votes for her. I figured she didn't need them as much so I left her for last.

I liked Lee, but didn't get to vote for him either.

I'm not a Tim fan, but to be fair he had a couple of beautiful sounding notes amid the wreckage.

Tomorrow, Orianthi, Ke$ha, and David Cook.

Re: American Idol Past, Present and Future

(Note: I haven't seen tonight's show as of this post yet.)

Alright, I'm adding up the results of our voting so that I can post them before the results show tomorrow. If anyone else wants to get in last minute, now's the time to do it!

Also, BTS, I still need confirmation on your number 2 and 3 picks, as well I need you to omit Alex from your list and give a number to Lee, which I didn't notice until now (wishful thinking were you? LOL), otherwise I can't properly use your list.
